Biography of Justin Hayward

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Justin Hayward was born on October 14, 1946, in Swindon, England. At the age of seven, he received his first piano lesson, and later taught himself to play the ukulele. By the age of nine, Justin had developed a strong passion for music and switched to playing the guitar. As a teenager, he experimented with various local rock bands.

Joining The Moody Blues

After finishing school, Justin came across an advertisement in "Melody Maker" for musicians wanted to join a band, and he ended up accompanying rock and roll musician Marty Wilde. After working with Wilde for some time, Hayward decided to create something of his own. By this time, he had already written several songs and had shown them to skiffle star Lonnie Donegan. Donegan liked the material and offered to use the songs in his repertoire, but ambitious Hayward wanted to perform his own songs and only gave Donegan the role of producer. However, the singles "London Is Behind Me" and "I Can't Face the World Without You," created with Donegan's help, failed to make an impact.

The Moody Blues and Solo Career

In the summer of 1966, Hayward found himself joining a band called "The Moody Blues." This turned out to be a turning point for him, as he was able to showcase his talents as a composer and musician. Songs like "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon" soon became part of the group's iconic repertoire. In 1974, The Moody Blues went on a hiatus, and Hayward quickly found a new partner in John Lodge. They released the album "Blue Jays," which featured the hit single "Blue Guitar." In 1977, Hayward released his first solo album, "Songwriter," where he performed all the parts himself. The following year, The Moody Blues returned from their break, and Hayward resumed his work with the band. Additionally, he participated in the recording of Jeff Wayne's album "The War of the Worlds."

Later Career

In 1989, Hayward collaborated with Mike Batt and the London Philharmonic Orchestra on the album "Classic Blue," featuring a selection of popular composers' melodies. In 1996, he released his next studio album, the soft-rock ballad-oriented "The View from the Hill." In 2003, Hayward released another orchestral album titled "Hayward and Friends Perform the Hits of the Moody Blues." Justin Hayward is always active and never experiences creative stagnation. He is always ready to work, and in his rare free time, Hayward enjoys horseback riding.
