Early Life and Education

Karen Aghamyan, a renowned Armenian artist, was born in Yerevan, Armenian SSR, in 1946. From an early age, he displayed a passion for drawing. In 1961, Aghamyan graduated from high school and enrolled in the Terlemezyan Art School, where he excelled for the next three years.

Artistic Journey

In 1964, Aghamyan furthered his education at the Yerevan Art and Theater Institute. Graduating with honors in 1969, he stayed at the institution as a lecturer, beginning his teaching career in 1970. In 1974, he became a full member of the Union of Artists of the USSR.

Professional Accomplishments

The 1980s marked a significant turning point in Aghamyan's career. He held various leadership positions within the Union of Artists of Armenia and the USSR. In 1980, he received the Komsomol Prize of Armenia for his outstanding creative work. Aghamyan received numerous accolades for his artistic achievements, including diplomas from the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1982 and 1983.

Academic and Institutional Roles

In 1988, Aghamyan became a professor and joined the Union of Designers of the USSR. He led the Department of the Yerevan Art and Theater Institute (now the State Academy of Fine Arts) from 1988 to 1995. In 1993, he became a full member of the International Artists' Association.

Presidency and Recognition

Since 1998, Aghamyan has served as the Chairman of the Union of Artists of Armenia. In 2004, he was appointed to the Council of Culture under the President of the Republic of Armenia. In 2010, he was honored with the prestigious title of Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

Exhibitions and International Exposure

Aghamyan has participated in over 150 solo and group exhibitions in Armenia, the Soviet Union, and around the world, organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Union of Artists. His works have been displayed in major cities such as Moscow, Leningrad, Paris, Los Angeles, and Beijing, showcasing his artistic talent to an international audience.
