Biography of Karen Kavaleryan
Karen Artavazdovich Kavaleryan (Armenian: Կարեն Արտավազդովիչ Կավալերյան) was born on June 5, 1961, in Moscow, Russia. He is a renowned Russian poet-songwriter and a member of the Moscow Writers' Union.
Early Career
In 1989, Kavaleryan became the first English-speaking Russian poet-songwriter to release his debut album in the United States. He gained recognition in 1988 when he wrote the lyrics for his first Russian hit song "Nochnoe randevu" (Night Rendezvous) for the band Rock Atelier.
Eurovision Success
Kavaleryan achieved great success in the Eurovision Song Contest, becoming a record-breaking participant from 2002 to 2008. He wrote six songs for five different countries during this period, representing Russia twice. In 2002, his song "Northern Girl" performed by the group Premier-ministr placed 10th. In 2006, his song "Never Let You Go" performed by Dima Bilan secured second place. He also represented Belarus, Armenia, Ukraine, and Georgia, earning 6th, 8th, 2nd, and 11th place respectively.
