Polish Artist and Sculptor

Jacek Jelenski was a prominent Polish artist and sculptor who lived and worked in Lithuania during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. He was a significant figure in the Classical movement and gained renown for his remarkable contributions to the artistic landscape of the region.

Masterpieces on Vilnius Cathedral

Jacek Jelenski's legacy is indelibly intertwined with the iconic Vilnius Cathedral, where his celebrated statues of St. Casimir, St. Helena, and St. Stanislaus adorned the roofline above the pediment from 1786 to 1792. These majestic sculptures stood as testaments to his exceptional craftsmanship and the grandeur of Classical art.

Preservation and Restoration

Over time, the sculptures on Vilnius Cathedral faced challenges. In 1950, they were removed for preservation purposes. However, in 1997, thanks to the efforts of sculptor Stanislovas Kuzma, they were meticulously restored and returned to their original positions. Today, they continue to inspire awe and admiration from visitors worldwide.
