Early Life and Family

Carolina Kózka was born on August 2, 1898, into a large peasant family in Wał-Ruda, Poland. Throughout her life, she resided in her village, assisting her parents with their farm work.

Religious Involvement

Carolina actively participated in her local Catholic parish. She collaborated with the parish priest in establishing prayer groups, conducting catechism classes, and setting up a village library.

Martyrdom

In 1914, during World War I, a Russian military unit was stationed in Wał-Ruda. On June 30, 1914, Carolina Kózka was brutally murdered by a Russian soldier while defending her honor and chastity.

Post-Mortem Veneration

After her death, Carolina Kózka was revered in Poland as a martyr of chastity and bodily purity. Her body was transferred to the church in Zabawa on November 18, 1917.

Beatification Process

Through the efforts of Bishop Stefan and Bishop Ablewicz beginning in 1965, a beatification process was initiated in Rome. On June 30, 1986, the Holy See issued a decree recognizing Carolina Kózka's martyrdom.

Beatification Ceremony

On June 10, 1987, Carolina Kózka was beatified by Pope John Paul II during his visit to Tarnów, Poland.

Patronage

Carolina Kózka serves as the patroness of the "Movement of Pure Hearts," the Diocese of Rzeszów, and the "Catholic Youth Association." Her feast day in the Catholic Church is celebrated on November 8.
