Early Life and Career

Childhood and Education

On October 10, 1960, Carlos Elejalde Garai was born in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, to a musician father and a homemaker mother. He spent his childhood in Salinas de Leniz and later pursued a technical education as an electrician. Alongside his technical studies, he studied painting and sculpture at the School of Arts and Crafts in Vitoria.

Acting Debut

Inspired by his encounter with actor Tonio Sampedro during military service, Elejalde decided to pursue an acting career. He joined the show "Adíos, hasta huevo," where he created over a dozen characters. In 1987, he made his film debut in "Cuatro vientos," a drama about the Spanish Civil War.

Film Success

Breakthrough Roles

Throughout the 1990s, Elejalde gained recognition for his performances in films by directors Julio Medem and Pedro Almodóvar. In Medem's "Vacas," he played two roles, and in "La ardilla roja," he starred as a taxi driver. He also appeared as a police officer in Almodóvar's "Kika" and in the action-comedy "Operation Muppets."

Directing and Awards

In 1999, Elejalde co-directed the crime comedy "El año de la furia," in which he also starred. In 2004, he solo-directed "Torapia." He has received two Goya Awards for Best Supporting Actor, first for "They Even Sell Rain" and then for his portrayal of Koldo Zugasti in "Ocho apellidos vascos," Spain's highest-grossing film.

Personal Life

Elejalde was married to actress Silvia Bel for ten years, and they have a daughter named Ainara. Their marriage eventually ended in divorce.

Recent Projects

In recent years, Elejalde has portrayed diverse roles in films such as the sports comedy "Que Dios nos perdone," the biopic "Mientras dure la guerra," and the crime thriller "Bajocero." He also starred in the adventure series "Fortuna."
