Early Life and Education

Katja Lubnauer was born in Łódź, Poland on July 24, 1969. After completing her secondary education at Tadeusz Kościuszko High School, she enrolled in the University of Łódź where she studied mathematics.

Teaching and Research

Following a brief stint as a teacher at a secondary school, Lubnauer joined the Łódź University as a PhD student. Her dissertation on probability theory earned her a Doctor of Mathematics degree in 2001. She continued to lecture at the university's Department of Probability Theory and Statistics.

Political Career

Lubnauer's political involvement began in 1993, when she joined the Democratic Union. She switched to the Union of Freedom in 1994 and served as a member of the Łódź City Council from 1998 to 2002.

In 2005, she co-founded the Democratic Party - demokraci.pl and organized the Festival of Science, Technology, and Art. She also wrote articles for the libertarian magazine "Liberté!" and maintained a blog.

Involvement in "Nowoczesna"

In 2016, Lubnauer became the deputy chair of the Nowoczesna party. She held positions as the party's spokesperson from January to May 2017 and the leader of its parliamentary caucus from April of that year.

On November 25, 2017, Lubnauer was elected party leader, defeating its founder Ryszard Petru. However, her tenure was short-lived as she resigned on January 9, 2018, and was replaced by Kamil Gasiuk-Pihowicz.

Personal Life

Katja Lubnauer is the daughter of Zdzisława Libudzis, a professor of microbiology, and Jerzy Libudzis, a chemist. Her family has resided in Łódź since the late 19th century.

In 1991, Lubnauer married financier Maciej Lubnauer, with whom she has a daughter named Anna, born in 1997.
