Biography of Kathleen Folbigg

Kathleen Folbigg, whose full name is Kathleen Megan Folbigg, was born in 1967 in Australia. Her mother, also named Kathleen, was killed by her father, Thomas Britton, on January 8, 1969, in front of young Kathleen. Thomas stabbed his wife 24 times. After a few days, Kathleen was placed in foster care. However, a year later, the foster family decided to give her up, stating that she exhibited behaviors similar to her parents, including engaging in sexual games around the house. Kathleen was then moved to the 'Bidura Children's Home', where she lived for several years. In September 1970, the Marlborough couple expressed their desire to adopt Kathleen, and she was placed in their care. She was not told the truth about her biological parents until 1984. On the same day she learned the truth, Kathleen packed her belongings and left town.

Marriage and Children

Shortly after leaving town, Kathleen met and married Craig Folbigg. In May 1987, they bought their own home in Newcastle, Australia. On February 1, 1989, they welcomed their first child, Caleb Gibson. However, Caleb was diagnosed with laryngomalacia, a condition that affects the cartilage at the top of the larynx, causing breathing difficulties. Unfortunately, on February 20, Caleb was found dead in the morning. Doctors attributed his death to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

On June 3, 1990, Kathleen gave birth to their second child, Patrick Allen. Craig took time off work to support Kathleen during the first months after Patrick's birth. On October 17, Kathleen woke Craig up with a scream, and they found Patrick struggling to breathe. Patrick was taken to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with epilepsy. On February 13, 1991, Kathleen called Craig at his office and told him, "It has happened again." This was the second child she had suffocated. After relocating to Thornton, Kathleen gave birth to their daughter, Sarah Folbigg. Unfortunately, Sarah was also killed by her mother at the age of 10 months on August 29, 1993.

Their last child, Laura Elizabeth Folbigg, also fell victim to Kathleen. Laura was suffocated by her own mother at the age of one year and seven months. It was later discovered that after Laura's death, Craig stumbled upon Kathleen's personal diary, which detailed all four murders.

Legal Proceedings and Conviction

The trial of Kathleen Folbigg lasted for seven weeks and was complicated by her denial of guilt, claiming that all her children died of natural causes. None of the attending physicians were willing to comment or refute any specific viewpoints. On May 21, 2003, she was found guilty of murdering her four children and sentenced to 40 years in prison, with no possibility of parole for the first 30 years. On February 17, 2005, her sentence was reduced to 30 years.

Kathleen is known to be held in a separate cell to prevent attacks from other inmates.
