Biography of Kazimierz Deyna
Kazimierz Deyna was a Polish football player, regarded as one of the best strikers in world football. He was born on October 23, 1947, in Starogard Gdański, Poland.
Early Career
Deyna began his professional career playing for the Polish club, Legia Warsaw. He quickly established himself as a prolific goal scorer and played a vital role in helping Legia win the Polish championship in 1969 and 1970.
International Success
On April 24, 1968, Deyna made his debut for the Polish national team in a match against Turkey. He went on to represent his country in various international tournaments, including the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, where he won a gold medal and emerged as the tournament's top scorer with nine goals. He also won a bronze medal in the 1974 FIFA World Cup.
Later Career and Emigration
In 1981, Deyna appeared in the film "Escape to Victory" as the character Paul Wolchek. Later that year, he decided to emigrate to the United States, where he played for the San Diego Sockers and the San Diego Legends.
Tragic End
Sadly, Deyna's life was cut short when he died in a car accident on September 1, 1989, while driving his BMW in San Diego. His untimely death shocked the football world and left a lasting impact on Polish football.
Legacy
In 1994, Kazimierz Deyna was posthumously voted the best Polish football player of all time by the Polish Football Association and readers of Polish sports publications.
