Early Life and Career

Kelsey Mitchell, a Canadian professional cyclist, initially excelled in various sports, particularly soccer. It wasn't until 2017, at the age of 23, that she ventured into track cycling after testing at the Canadian RBC Training Ground program, which evaluates young athletes' abilities. Her first race on the track took place in February of the following year.

Breakthrough Performance

Mitchell's breakout moment came in September 2018 at the Canadian Track Championships, where she swiftly secured three medals – a national title in the sprint, and third-place finishes in the keirin and 500m time trial.

International Debut

In January 2019, Mitchell made her international debut at the Track World Cup in Hong Kong, placing sixth in the sprint. She continued her success at the Pan American Games in Lima that August, triumphing in the sprint and earning silver in the team sprint alongside Amelia Walsh.

World Record and Championship Victories

A few weeks later, Mitchell dominated the Pan American Track Championships (with Lauriane Genest), claiming gold in both the sprint and team sprint while also snatching bronze in the keirin. During the qualifying rounds for the sprint, she shattered the 200m world record with a time of 10.154 seconds, a mark previously held by Germany's Kristina Vogel since 2013.

At the 2019/20 Track Cycling World Championships in Milton, Canada, she once again triumphed in the team sprint with Genest.
