Biography of Kerry Holley
Kerry Holley is an American programmer, inventor, writer, and researcher, specializing in software application architecture. He is best known as one of the pioneers of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and has gained recognition as one of the most important figures in IBM's leadership.

Early Life and Education
Kerry Holley was raised by his maternal grandmother in the troubled south side of Chicago. Despite growing up without a father in a challenging neighborhood, Holley managed to rise above his surroundings through his intellect and dedication to education. He attended a specialized children's center where he excelled in programming to the point of being able to teach it. Some of his students included notable individuals such as actor Michael Duncan Clarke and future US Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Holley obtained a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics from DePaul University in 1976 and a Doctor of Law degree in 1982.

Career at IBM
Holley joined IBM in 1986 as an engineer and later became a consultant-analyst in the company's consulting group in 1990. He eventually became the technical director of several divisions within IBM, overseeing the development of flexible applications that allowed companies to adapt to rapidly changing market situations. One of Holley's most significant contributions was the creation of the concept of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), which is a methodology for building software based on structured and ordered collections of individual software modules (services) that collectively provide the functionality expected from a large software product. This work earned Holley the title of 'IBM Fellow,' the highest technical leadership position in the company. In 2000, he was also awarded the title of 'IBM Distinguished Engineer' and was elected to the IBM Academy of Technology for his active and continuous participation in developing high-performance financial applications.

Contributions to Software Development
Holley holds a patent for the first-ever SOA method in the industry and the SOA maturity model, which helps develop SOA-based applications and infrastructures. He has authored several books, including '100 SOA Questions: Asked and Answered,' published in 2010, which provides a detailed description of various aspects of implementing and adopting SOA principles in production. His collaborative work with Pam Isom, 'Is Your Company Ready for Cloud,' focuses on cloud technologies. Holley has established himself as an exceptional specialist in software development, architectural issues, translating basic requirements into working models, and various solutions that bridge the gap between business and high technology. He continues to hold numerous patents, ranging from techniques for maintaining functionality in the event of component failures to schemes for detecting lost mobile devices.
Education and Consultancy
Alongside his contributions to the field of information technology, Kerry Holley remains actively involved in the educational industry. Currently, he serves as a consultant at the College of Computing and Digital Media at DePaul University.
