Kevin McHale: A Multifaceted Entertainer from Glee to Solo Stardom
Early Life and Career:Kevin McHale was born in Plano, Texas, on June 14, 1988. Growing up, he befriended fellow actress and singer Demi Lovato. After attending high school in California, McHale joined the boy band NLT. The group signed with Chris Stokes' label The Ultimate Group and released three singles, including "That Girl" and "She Said, I Said (Time We Let Go)." NLT also made cameo appearances in the film "Bratz: The Movie" and participated in a tour with Menudo and Vfactory.
Breakthrough with 'Glee':
McHale's breakout role came in 2009 when he was cast as Artie Abrams in the musical television series "Glee." His character, who used a wheelchair after a car accident, joined the show's glee club in the first episode. McHale's first solo performance, featuring the song "Dancing with Myself," aired in the episode "Wheels." He received four Screen Actors Guild nominations for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, winning the award in 2010.
Solo Music and Film Roles:
Following the conclusion of "Glee," McHale signed with Universal Music Group and began writing original music. He collaborated on the song "Heartless" with Chris Moy and Justin Thorne, which appeared on Thorne's debut EP. McHale also appeared in music videos for One Call's "Blacklight" and Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)." In 2014, he co-starred in the independent film "Boychoir" and was set to star in "They Might Be Kennedys," although the film's production status is currently unknown.

In 2014, McHale hosted the reality game show "Virtually Famous." He played a supporting role in the miniseries "When We Rise," which depicted the history of the LGBTQ+ rights movement. In 2016, he co-developed the mobile app +ONE, which aimed to simplify event planning. McHale currently hosts the podcast "Sick of My Own Voice" on Dash Radio.
Coming Out and Personal Life:
In April 2018, McHale publicly came out as gay in a Twitter post. He later revealed that he had previously been called a "closet queen." McHale is currently in a relationship with actor Austin McKenzie.
Activism and Philanthropy:
McHale has been involved in animal welfare campaigns for PETA. He also participated in the Human Rights Campaign's video tribute to the victims of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando.
