English art historians Kevin Malveni and Susie Rogers, with 25 years of experience in creating miniatures, have traveled around the world, visiting historical sites that they later recreated in miniature form. For their latest project, commissioned by a California collector fascinated by Marie Antoinette, the couple combined various locations once visited by the infamous monarch, who was executed during the French Revolution in 1793. Using Versailles Palace, Château de Bagatelle, and Palace of Fontainebleau as their inspiration, Malveni and Rogers created a stunning replica of a 16th-century royal residence called 'Chateau Antoinette'. This dollhouse-like masterpiece was made out of gold, crystal, silver, and wooden furniture. Despite its small size, the copy of Marie Antoinette's apartments was sold to a private buyer for a staggering sum of money, rumored to be in the five-figure range.
