Biography of King Los
King Los, born Carlos Coleman on March 23, 1980, in Baltimore, Maryland, is an American rapper, singer, and music producer. He gained recognition in his career by releasing various mixtapes, including 'The Crown Ain't Safe' and 'Becoming King'. Initially, he worked with the label 'Bad Boy Records' but parted ways in 2014. Currently, Los is signed to 'After Platinum', '88 Classic', and 'RCA'.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
As a 16-year-old high school student, Carlos Coleman began writing poetry and prose as a way to cope with the loss of his murdered father. At 18, he transitioned to rap and decided to participate in a rap battle in his hometown of Baltimore. Straight out of school, Coleman auditioned for producer and rapper Diddy's program 'Making the Band 2' in 2002. Although he was chosen as one of the contestants, Coleman declined to sign the necessary documents, and 'Making the Band 2' waved him off. Ironically, Coleman went on to strike a deal with 'Bad Boy Records' in 2005 after delivering a 10-minute freestyle for Diddy.
Independent Career and Recognition
Unfortunately, 'Bad Boy Records' dissolved due to legal disputes before Coleman could release an album. He returned to being an independent artist and released mixtapes and online freestyles under the name King Los, which gained significant attention from the public. His first and second mixtapes, 'Guilty Until Proven Innocent' and 'G5: Certified Fly', both came out in 2008. Following the release of 'G5.2' in May 2009, his new work 'Zero Gravity' was presented on August 5, 2010. His sixth mixtape, 'Shooter', featuring Rick Ross and Cory Gunz, was released on November 8, 2010. On December 26, 2010, he presented the improvisational mixtape 'The Louis Vuitton Gift Pack', which featured Chris Brown.
Signing with 'Bad Boy Records'
On July 18, 2010, King Los released the mixtape 'Worth the Wait', featuring snippets from his upcoming mixtape 'The Crown Ain't Safe'. The latter was released on December 5, 2011, and featured Lola Monroe, Jazze Pha, DMX, Kid Ink, Twista, and XV. The mixtape received warm reception, leading to a bidding war between labels. King Los was a contender for the 'XXL Freshman Class of 2012' list.
On February 6, 2012, Diddy announced that King Los was chosen as the new signee to the revived 'Bad Boy Records' label. Immediately after the announcement, Los began working on his debut mixtape for 'Bad Boy Records'. On March 15, 2013, the rapper announced that the release date for the mixtape 'Becoming King' was set for April 25, 2013. The mixtape featured Diddy, Fantasia, Juicy J, Ludacris, Twista, Raheem DeVaughn, and others. 'Becoming King' was mostly well-received, with critics praising Los' storytelling abilities and lyrical prowess.
Continued Career and Departure from 'Bad Boy Records'
On August 13, 2013, King Los released a freestyle version of the hip-hop song 'Control', originally intended for Big Sean's second studio album 'Hall of Fame'. Kendrick Lamar praised Los' release as one of the best. He also collaborated on the promotional single 'No Option' from Kid Ink's second studio album 'My Own Lane'.
On December 28, 2013, Los presented 'Broken Silence', a mixtape created in collaboration with Mark Battles. The mixtape featured Wale, Dizzy Wright, Cydel Young, Chevy Woods, Ab-Soul, and others. On March 19, 2014, Los announced his departure from 'Bad Boy Records' and 'Interscope', despite previously confirming his mixtape 'Zero Gravity II'. He later explained his decision, stating that he wanted to explore other opportunities, while still remaining loyal to the 'Bad Boy' family.
New Ventures and Personal Life
On October 23, 2014, King Los confirmed that he was working with 'RCA Records' and '88 Classic' labels. He also announced that Diddy would serve as the executive producer for his debut studio album, titled 'God, Money, War', which was set to release in 2015.
In terms of his personal life, King Los's girlfriend, rapper Lola Monroe, announced on December 25, 2012, that she was expecting a child with Los. She gave birth to their son, Brixton Royal Coleman, on March 12, 2013.
