Christina Lifors: Swedish Interior Design Maven
Early InfluencesChristina Lifors, a native Swede, was first exposed to architecture and design as a young girl, when her parents embarked on an ambitious home-building project in Naples, Florida. The experience ignited a passion for space planning and interior aesthetics within her.
Academic Journey and Career Beginnings
Despite her early design inclinations, Lifors initially pursued a degree in marketing at the University of Rhode Island. Upon graduating, she relocated to New York City in search of creative career opportunities. She landed a position as an assistant to a senior designer at Brian J. McCarthy Inc., a renowned interior design firm.
Ascent in New York
Within a year, Lifors found herself working directly with Brian McCarthy himself, collaborating on prestigious projects ranging from grand Manhattan apartments to summer retreats in the Hamptons and a private residence nestled in the hills of Bel-Air, California.
Return to Stockholm and Business Venture
After nine years in the bustling metropolis of New York City, Lifors made the decision to return to her hometown of Stockholm. There, she established her own design firm, Kristina Lifors Interior Design, specializing in turnkey design services for discerning city dwellers.
Design Philosophy and Approach
Lifors' design aesthetic emphasizes durability and meticulous attention to detail. She excels in creating timeless spaces with a Scandinavian flair, characterized by warm, inviting colors, plush fabrics, and carefully chosen furnishings that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Notable Projects
One of her most notable projects is a sophisticated apartment on Grev Turegatan in central Stockholm. With a solid structural foundation and a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom, Lifors' team elevated the space by introducing a darker color palette, bespoke textiles, and plush rugs that seamlessly connected the various rooms. The addition of a vintage Louis Vuitton trunk from the 1930s, purchased at auction, added a touch of nostalgic charm.
Legacy and Recognition
Kristina Lifors has become a respected figure in the world of interior design. Her firm, Kristina Lifors Interior Design, continues to thrive in Stockholm, offering comprehensive design services that transform living spaces into beautiful and functional works of art.
