In a heartwarming reunion, a 97-year-old American World War II veteran, Kay Tee Robbins, reconnected with his former love, 92-year-old Frenchwoman Jeannine Pierson (née Ganey), after 75 years apart.
The Chance Encounter
During a visit to Europe to commemorate the D-Day landings, Robbins shared his story of meeting Ganey during the war and showed reporters an old black-and-white photo of them together. Though he believed she was no longer alive, he expressed a desire to meet her family.
A Surprise Reunited
To Robbins' amazement, reporters revealed that Ganey was alive and waiting to see him. A BBC documentary captured the moment when Jeannine, now a resident of a nursing home, met Robbins in Briey, the town where they first met.
Lives Lived and Lost
Over the decades, both Robbins and Ganey had married, had children, and were widowed. Despite the years of separation, Ganey had never forgotten Robbins. "I always thought about him," she said. "I thought maybe he would come. It never left me."
