Humble BeginningsIn 1955, Maria Socorro Ledesma, known affectionately as Lea Salonga, was born into a Lebanese-Filipino family in Manila. Her musical journey commenced as a student at Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, where she joined the band "Lastiko."
Rise to Fame
After relocating to Manila, Ledesma co-founded "Music & Magic." By 1982, her solo concert "Ako ay Pilipino" at the Cultural Center of the Philippines earned her widespread acclaim and national television coverage. Her subsequent albums, including "Ako Ay Pilipino" and "I Think I'm In Love," cemented her status as a rising star.
International Recognition
Lea's success transcended Philippine borders. In 1988, she performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In 1989, she made history as the first Filipino recipient of the Salem Music Awards in London.

Throughout the 1990s, Lea collaborated with renowned musicians such as Noel Pointer, Jack Jones, and Michel Legrand. In 1994, her album "The Voice and the Violin" with Pointer showcased her versatility.
