Early Life and Education

Kurban Berdyev was born in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, and began his football career in 1959. He attended the Stroiteli football school in Ashgabat from 1966 and later graduated from the Ashgabat State Technical College of Railway Transport (1967-1971). He went on to earn degrees from Turkmen State University (1971-1975) and the Higher School of Coaches (1989-1991).

Playing and Coaching Career

As a midfielder, Berdyev played for various clubs in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Russia from 1981 to 1996. He also coached during this period, serving as the head coach of the Kazakhstan youth team and the Turkmenistan national team.

FC Rubin Kazan Years

In 2001, Berdyev became the head coach of FC Rubin Kazan. Under his leadership, Rubin won the Russian First Division (2002), earned bronze medals in the Russian Premier League (2003), and secured two Russian Premier League titles (2008 and 2009). During his tenure, Rubin also competed in several European club competitions.

National Team and Consulting Roles

Berdyev served as a consultant for the Russian youth team at the 2000 European Championship in Israel. He also coached the Turkmenistan national team from 1997 to 1999.

Accolades and Honors

Berdyev was named the Russian Premier League Manager of the Year by the Russian Football Union in 2009. He has led FC Rubin to numerous titles, including two Russian Premier League championships, a Russian Super Cup, a Russian First Division title, and a bronze medal.
