The Davis family was heavily connected to theater, and Lane grew up backstage, assisting with set design for various productions.

Education and Acting Beginnings

After graduating high school, Davies enrolled in Middle Tennessee State University (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) to study speech and drama. Concurrently, he performed in "dinner theaters," which staged light-hearted plays and musicals while offering refreshments.

Career Breakthrough

Davies' breakthrough came when he played a three-page monologue in a high school play, receiving a standing ovation from the audience. After graduating from university, he began his acting career in film, theater, and musicals. His most notable performances came on television.

"Santa Barbara" and Other TV Roles

In 1984, Davies joined the cast of NBC's "Santa Barbara" as Mason Capwell, a complex and enigmatic character. His on-screen romance with Julia Wainwright (played by Nancy Grahn) became a legendary "supercouple" in soap opera history. Davies continued to appear on television in various roles, including as Dr. Evan Whyland in "Days of Our Lives" (1981), Tempus in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" (1995-1997), and Lieutenant Sommers in "Russians in the City of Angels" (2002).

Shakespearean Festivals and Theater Work

Aside from his television work, Davies is a passionate advocate for Shakespeare's works. He organizes and participates in annual Shakespeare festivals, playing iconic roles and directing productions. He founded the Santa Susana Repertory Company and the Kingsmen Shakespeare Guild.
