Early Career
Laurence Fishburne's acting career began at the tender age of ten in a television show. Two years later, he made his film debut in "Cornbread, Earl and Me" (1975). Fishburne was born in Augusta, Georgia, and received his acting training at the Lincoln Square Academy.
Landmark Roles
At the age of fourteen, Fishburne fibbed about his age to secure a role in Francis Ford Coppola's "Apocalypse Now" (1979). He went on to collaborate with Coppola in several other films, including "The Outsiders" (1983), "The Cotton Club" (1984), and "Gardens of Stone" (1987).
Fishburne made history as the first African American actor to play the lead role in a Shakespearean film adaptation, "Othello" (1995), directed by Oliver Parker.
