Didier Lecône and Hemant Sagar: French Couturiers

Didier Lecône and Hemant Sagar's lives took a significant turn in 1984 with the establishment of their eponymous fashion house. The audacious, unconventional name and the emblematic sign connecting an L and an H (L standing for Lecône, levity and luster; and H for Hemant, humor and habit) manifested the partners' exuberant optimism.

Didier Lecône: From Art to Fashion

Born in 1955 in Chaumont, eastern France, Didier Lecône pursued a career in advertising after studying fine arts. However, his true calling lay in fashion. He honed his skills at the École de la chambre syndicale de la couture parisienne, a renowned fashion design school.

Hemant Sagar: From Delhi to Paris

Hemant Sagar was born in 1957 to a German mother from Berlin and an Indian father from Delhi. After spending his childhood in Delhi, Sagar moved to Germany for his education. He mastered pattern-making and dress design, gained experience in mass-production clothing with a German company, and eventually made his way to Paris to study fashion design, like Lecône.

A Collaboration of Passion and Friendship

The famous pair met in 1978, and their friendship soon blossomed into a shared ambition to realize their talents in fashion. Their story is one of unity in sentiment, interest, and passion. The small "L and H" atelier on rue de Faubourg Saint Honoré grew from a salon to a boutique and finally into a full-fledged fashion house, exemplifying the ultimate upward trajectory in the fashion world.

From Creation to Acclaim

Since 1984, Lecône and Hemant have presented haute couture and ready-to-wear collections each season. In 1988, Lecône Hemant launched an accessories line in Japan, and in 1991, their fashion house relocated to the Hôtel d'Argenson in the heart of Paris's Le Marais district. The "L and H" brand reached a pinnacle of success in 1994 when it received the coveted fashion award "le De d'Or."

Beyond Fashion

When Lecône is not designing clothes, he picks up the paintbrush. Hemant, on the other hand, balances business with a passion for music. Both share a love for travel and an affinity for vibrant locations, unexpected encounters, and adventure. Their shared experiences continuously inspire their creations. Their expeditions to distant lands and encounters with remarkable individuals infuse their collections with energy and vitality.

Haute Couture as a Cultural Fusion

For Lecône Hemant, haute couture, like their partnership, is a blend of contrasting styles and diverse cultures.
