Early Life and Education
Lee Unkrich was born in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. He honed his acting skills at the renowned Cleveland Playhouse during his youth. In 1990, he graduated from the prestigious University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts with a degree in film.
Career Beginnings
After graduating, Unkrich spent some time working in television. In 1994, he joined Pixar Animation Studios, where he initially served in the art department. He eventually became involved in directing, starting as an assistant director on "Toy Story 2." Unkrich was inspired by his former French teacher when creating the character of Monsieur Canard.
Pixar Animator and Director
Unkrich contributed to the creation of beloved Pixar films such as "Monsters, Inc." and "Finding Nemo." His directorial debut came in 2010 with "Toy Story 3," which earned him accolades, including an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film. Recognition and Awards
Unich received the Mary Pickford Award from the University of Southern California in 2011 for his outstanding contributions to filmmaking. He joined the ranks of previous recipients such as Robert Zemeckis, Walter Murch, and Jon Landau.

Lee Unkrich is married to Laura Unkrich and has three children: Max, Alice, and Hannah. They reside in Kentfield, Marin County, California.

Unkrich is an avid cinephile. He credits the iconic Stephen King adaptation "The Shining," starring Jack Nicholson, as the inspiration that sparked his passion for filmmaking.
