Early Life and Career
Lee Kiefer was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1994 to Filipino parents. She grew up in Lexington, Kentucky, where she began fencing at the age of 12. From an early age, Lee displayed exceptional talent and quickly rose through the ranks of youth competition.
Pan American Success
In 2010, Lee won her first Pan American Championship title, a feat she would repeat every year until 2017. Her dominance in the Pan American region was further demonstrated by her multiple Pan American Games gold medals, including two in 2011.
International Breakthrough
Lee's international breakthrough came in 2011 when she earned a bronze medal at the World Fencing Championships. The following year, she competed in the London Olympics, finishing 5th in the individual event and 6th in the team event.
Olympic Glory
In 2016, Lee made history by becoming the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in foil fencing. She achieved this feat at the Rio Olympics, where she defeated Russia's Inna Deriglazova in a thrilling final.
Continued Success
Lee's success continued in the years following her Olympic victory. In 2017, she became the world team champion in foil fencing. She also won a team silver medal at the 2018 World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships.

Lee is married to American fencer Gerek Meinhardt. She is known for her strong work ethic and dedication to her sport. Off the fencing strip, Lee is also an active advocate for diversity and inclusion in fencing.
