Early Life and Pageant Success
Lee Meriwether was born in Los Angeles, California on May 27, 1935. Raised in San Francisco, she attended George Washington High School and San Francisco City College. After winning the Miss San Francisco title, Meriwether went on to triumph in the Miss California and Miss America pageants in 1955.

Screen Debut and Breakthrough Roles
Making her film debut in the 1959 sci-fi flick "4D Man," Meriwether's career gained momentum in 1966 with notable roles as Catwoman in "Batman" and Dr. Ann McGregor in the television series "The Time Tunnel." In 1969, she appeared in two feature films, "The Undefeated" and "Angel in My Pocket," and guest-starred in episodes of "Star Trek" and "Mission: Impossible."
Starring in "Barnaby Jones"
Lee Meriwether's most renowned role came as Detective Betty Jones in the crime drama series "Barnaby Jones," which aired from 1973 to 1980. Her dedicated performance earned her widespread recognition and acclaim.
Later Career
Following the conclusion of "Barnaby Jones," Meriwether relocated to England for a time and appeared in British miniseries such as "The Munsters" and "The Munsters Today." Upon her return to the United States, she made guest appearances in "Circus of the Stars" and hosted the game show "Match Game." In the 1990s, she appeared in "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" and "All My Children," and voiced a character in the video game "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots."
Personal Life
Lee Meriwether has been married twice. Her first marriage, to actor Frank Aletter, lasted from 1958 to 1974 and produced two children, Kyle Aletter-Oldman and Leslie Aletter. In 1986, she wed fellow actor Marshall Borden.
