Early Life and EducationLeelee Sobieski was born Lillian Rudabet Gloria Elsveta Sobieski on June 10, 1983, in New York City. Her American mother, Elizabeth, is a writer and actress manager, while her French father, Jean Sobieski, is an artist. Leelee attended Trevor Day School and spent her summers on her grandfather's ranch, where she developed her equestrian skills. She briefly studied at Brown University before pursuing an acting career.

Breakthrough Roles
Sobieski's breakthrough came in 1998 with roles in "Deep Impact" and Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut." In the latter, she played the modern-day Lolita, and she credits Kubrick's mentorship as a formative experience. This was followed by Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her performances in "Joan of Arc" (1999) and "Uprising" (2001), respectively.

Personal Life
Sobieski briefly dated architect Perry Manhatten in 2002 before embarking on a romance with Sean Lennon in 2004. The couple eventually split.
