Leon Errol, whose real name was Leonce Errol Sims, was an American actor of Australian descent. He was born in 1881 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. In the early 1910s, Errol began his career on Broadway, where he gained immense popularity for his role in the famous project "Ziegfeld Follies." His sister, Leda Errol, also appeared in the show. Errol continued to work in both short and feature films in the 1920s, starring in movies such as "Yolanda," "Sally," and "Clothes Make the Pirate."

During the 1930s, Errol became incredibly sought after as an actor, often appearing in six to seven films per year, thanks in large part to a successful contract with Columbia Pictures. He later moved to RKO Radio Pictures and maintained a high level of productivity. In the late 1930s and early 1940s, Errol starred in several popular comedy series called "Mexican Spitfire" as Lord Basil Epping. He worked alongside the brilliant actress Lupe Velez in these films.

Throughout the 1940s, Errol continued to act in films, predominantly in comedic roles. Some notable films from this period include "Higher and Higher" (1943), "The Invisible Man's Revenge" (1944), "Birthday Blues" (1945), and "Mama Loves Papa" (1945). In his career, Errol appeared in over 150 films, most of which were short films. He also directed five films, provided sound effects for seven, and even worked as a screenwriter once.

Errol married Stella Chatelaine in 1906 in Denver, Colorado, but they did not have any children. He passed away at the age of 70 on October 12, 1951. His final film, "Lord Epping Returns," was released in the same year. It is worth noting that Errol played a significant role in launching the career of a young comedian named Roscoe Arbuckle, who later became a legend in the industry.
