Biography of Leonid Markov
Leonid Markov was born in the village of Alexeevskoye in Kazakhstan. From 1931-1934, he played child roles in the plays of the Saratov Drama Theater, where his father, V. D. Markov, worked as an actor. From 1945-1947, he studied at the studio of the Vologda Drama Theater. He graduated from the studio at the Moscow Lenin Komsomol Theater in 1950. From 1950, he worked as an actor at the Moscow Lenin Komsomol Theater, from 1960 at the Pushkin Theater, and from 1965 at the Moscow Art Theater. He was awarded the title of People's Artist of the USSR in 1985. Markov's participation in productions guaranteed success, and many leading Moscow theaters sought him out for roles. He excelled in the entire repertoire of the theater, but his career in film did not go as well – he often received insignificant roles. However, even these roles were memorable, and someone once wrote about Markov's film roles: "It feels like a lion has just touched you with his paw. Incredible power!" Markov appeared in several dozen films, including "Russian Field," "Garage," "Red and Black," and "Snake Hunt," but none of them truly showcased his talent.
