Lexi Reed: A Weight Loss Journey and a Surgical Transformation

The Weight Loss Journey

Lexi Reed, an American blogger, lost a staggering 313 pounds in two years. However, the victory was bittersweet as she struggled with the excess loose skin that remained. Sharing her journey on Instagram, Lex covered both her tremendous weight loss and the final hurdle she overcame - 'the last piece of the puzzle', her sagging skin.

The Skin Removal Surgery

Tightening the loose skin 'bags' on her thighs, buttocks, and stomach was not an option, so Lex opted for surgery. The extensive procedure to remove the excess skin lasted nine hours, followed by a buttock lift. Recovery required six weeks before Lex could resume her workouts. "Surgery is not easy," Lex wrote on Instagram, "it took away from my loves - my job, my workouts, my schedule, my life, and my many obligations. But I will tell you it was worth every single minute."

The Beginning of the Weight Loss Journey

Hailing from Indiana, Lex's weight loss began with a New Year's resolution in 2016. She initially cut out soda, alcohol, and fast food. She successfully combined diet with consistent exercise, helping her reach a weight of 172 pounds. Simple math suggests that Lex, at the start of her transformation, weighed around 485 pounds. Her doctor stated that Lex had 3 feet by 1.5 feet of excess skin removed from her abdomen and outer thighs.

The Recovery

Satisfied with the results, Lex admitted that the rehabilitation was more painful than she anticipated. "So. Much. Pain," she posted to her nearly 1 million Instagram followers. "I've never had surgery before. I have cried every day multiple times since. But I am going to heal and recover the best I can." Lex also wrote in a post that going to the bathroom, coughing, and laughing were difficult after the surgery, but she emphasized that she could not have handled the loose skin on her own. "I have been sleeping a lot over the last few days," Lex wrote. "But I am determined to take care of this body that I've earned and to do it at my own pace. So many people thought I was weak, and I had so much more to prove to myself."
