Biography of Lisandro Abadie

Lisandro Abadie is an Argentinian operatic bass known for his performances in complex and rarely performed baroque operas. He was born in Buenos Aires in 1974. Abadie took his first singing lessons from Sergio Pelacani, a countertenor and specialist in baroque opera. He later obtained diplomas from the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, the Basel Music Academy in Switzerland, where he studied with soprano Evelyn Tubb, and the Hochschule Luzern - Musik, where he studied with bass Peter Brechbühler.

In 2006, Abadie won the Edwin Fischer Memorial Prize, named after the renowned Swiss conductor and pianist, and became a finalist in the Handel Singing Competition in 2008. He has worked with numerous prominent contemporary conductors. Under the baton of William Christie, Abadie performed in Henry Purcell's "The Fairy Queen" in Aix-en-Provence and Stefano Landi's "Sant'Alessio". He also participated in productions of Mozart's operas "Così fan tutte", "Don Giovanni", "Die Zauberflöte", and "Le Nozze di Figaro" under the direction of Facundo Agudin, his fellow countryman. Abadie has performed Bach's "Johannes-Passion", Puccini's "Mass", and requiems by Mozart and Fauré.

Abadie has collaborated with musical ensembles such as Les Arts Florissants, Collegium 1704, and Mala Punica, and regularly performs with pianist and composer Paul Suits. In 2008, Abadie premiered Suits' song cycle "Three Views of War". His recording of William Hayes' "The Passions" received the Choc de Classica award. He also participated in the first recording of Fauré's requiem. In 2011, Abadie performed with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Les Talens Lyriques, and Les Arts Florissants, and took part in the production of "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme" in Madrid and Simon Mayr's opera "Demetrio".

In 2012, Abadie returned to the London Handel Festival to perform in the oratorios "Il Pastor Fido" and "Messiah", and went on tour with Les Arts Florissants, Il Complesso Barocco, La Risonanza, and Collegium 1704. In 2013, Abadie made his debut at the Opéra de Lausanne, singing the role of the Maghrebian Magician in Nino Rota's "Aladin et la lampe merveilleuse". He also reprised his lead role in "Cachafaz" in Paris, Amiens, and Vannes, and performed in "Siroe, re di Persia" at the International Handel Festival in Göttingen.
