Loïc Bigois: A Pioneer in Formula 1 Aerodynamics
Loïc Bigois is a renowned aerodynamicist who has left an indelible mark on the world of Formula 1.
Early Career and Ligier Years
After honing his engineering skills in Paris and Aix-en-Provence, Bigois ventured to Toulouse and found his footing in the aerospace industry. In 1990, he joined Ligier as Head of Design Office, overseeing aerodynamic development. He briefly left the team but rejoined in the mid-90s as Chief Designer, a role he retained even after a change in ownership (Ligier becoming Prost). He departed just before the start of the 2002 season.
Minardi and Williams
Following Prost's demise, Bigois moved to Minardi, remaining there until 2003, when he was approached by Williams to become one of the team's aerodynamics experts. Bigois replaced Antonia Terzi and began collaborating with Jörg Zander, who succeeded Gavin Fisher as Chief Designer in September 2005. Bigois and Zander worked under the guidance of Technical Director Sam Michael.
Honda and Brawn GP
On July 2, 2007, Bigois announced his decision to leave Williams and join Honda. In 2009, Honda was transformed into Brawn GP, but Bigois remained with the team as Head of Aerodynamics. Brawn GP went on to triumph in both the World Drivers' and Constructors' Championships, and Loïc Bigois was honored with the Dino Toso Award for Aerodynamicist of the Year.
