Biography of Laurent Hilaire

Laurent Hilaire, a ballet artist, began his journey in the world of dance at the Paris Opera Ballet School in 1975. After completing his training in 1979, he was accepted into the corps de ballet. His talent and dedication quickly caught the attention of Rudolf Nureyev, who entrusted him with the role of Franz in "Coppelia" in 1983. This marked the start of Hilaire's impressive career, as he went on to perform several significant roles in various ballets.

Among his notable performances are the lead male roles in "Sylvia" (choreographed by Pierre Lacotte), "Giselle," "La Bayadere" (Petipa), "Swan Lake" (Burmester and Nureyev's version), "Petrushka," "Le Spectre de la Rose" (Fokine), "Premonitions" (Miasin), "Apollo," "The Crystal Palace," "Agon," "Theme and Variations," "Symphony in C Major," "Violin Concerto" (Balanchine), "Suite en Blanc" (Lifar), "Etudes" (Lander), "Le Parc," "Dark Elegies," "Continuation" (Tudor), and other works by Robbins, Petit, Béjart, MacMillan, Rudolf van Dantzig, Nureyev, Kylián, Niels Christe, Forsythe, Dominique Bagouet, José Montalvo, James Kudelka, and Angelin Preljocaj.

In 1998, Hilaire was recognized for his contributions to the arts and literature and was awarded the title of Officer of Arts and Literature. He toured with the Paris Opera Ballet company in Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Hong Kong, the United States, Switzerland, China, and performed at the Dance Biennale in Milan and Lyon.

In addition to his work with the Paris Opera Ballet, Hilaire has also performed with various ballet companies around the world, including the Tokyo Ballet, Berlin Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, New Zealand Ballet, Vienna State Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, La Scala Ballet, American Ballet Theatre in New York and Chicago, Royal Ballet in London, and Maurice Béjart's Ballet Lausanne.

On June 30, 2002, Laurent Hilaire took on the role of the jury president in Béjart's ballet "Concours." His exceptional talent, versatility, and extensive repertoire have established him as a star of the Paris Opera Ballet and a highly respected figure in the international ballet scene.
