The Birth of Lyube
In 1987, Igor Igorovich Matvienko, while creating the group "Klass" in the late 80s, could not have anticipated the outcome of his experiments in music production engineering. This project became the foundation for his Producer Center, under which the heroes of this monumental chronology work today - the group "Lyube," their smaller brothers and sisters, the trio "Ivanushki International" and the quartet "Girls." Matvienko, with his natural modesty and true artistic talent, never sought to spotlight himself in newspapers or on TV screens like some of his colleagues. Therefore, for all the fans of these collectives, he always remained somewhat secondary and unnecessary, modestly present only in the credits printed on cassette tapes and CDs. Nevertheless, in 1987, it was in his mind that the idea of creating a new musical collective with a light national-patriotic focus and a strong vocal emerged. The search for a frontman took a long and agonizing time until the former "subordinate" of Igor Igorovich in the ensemble "Zdravstvuy, pesnya," Nikolai Rastorguev, was finally appointed to this position.
The Meeting of Partners
According to legends, the historic meeting of future partners occurred when Rastorguev, who had experience working in VIA "Shestero Molodykh," "Leysya, pesnya" and "Rondo," came for an audition in "Zdravstvuy, pesnya." "At that time, it was trendy," says Matvienko, "for a group to have several soloists, and the staff allowed for it. After Sergey Mazaev left the collective, we started looking for a replacement. Among others, a young and well-built man named Nikolai Rastorguev came, who did not fit the format of a rock band externally. The genre required thin, emaciated musicians, and here we had such a sturdy guy... However, he learned the songs from the repertoire of 'Zdravstvuy, pesnya' and came for a second audition. For some reason, I was opposed to him. Seeing this, Nikolai, of course, was upset and surprised: how is it that he learned the songs, sang well, but was not accepted into the group? He indeed sang brilliantly. In the end, Kolya convinced me that he was absolutely necessary for the group, and he was right. By the way, the song 'Dyadya Vasya' from the repertoire of 'Zdravstvuy, pesnya,' performed by Rastorguev, was included in the first album of 'Lyube.' Nikolai proved himself to be an artist of the highest class. There is no doubt about it." At a time when the stage was filled with groups and performers with overly sweet voices, "Lyube" presented a "selyodka" (herring) with spices on the table, according to Matvienko. They had the lightness and melodiousness of pop music, but the drive and lyrics of good rock and roll. Moreover, the group's first stage image was excessively aggressive. From glossy posters, muscular guys in tank tops stared at you, with the outline of their muscles clearly visible. At that time, any male resident of the Moscow suburb Lyubertsy made not only ordinary citizens but also law enforcement agencies tremble. During that time, the "Lyubertsi," like warlike Khazars, raided the capital and its surroundings, and thanks to this, they kept the entire country in fear. Naturally, the appearance of a group with the name "Lyube" could not go unnoticed. The press immediately labeled the group as the mouthpiece of the "Lyubertsy" gang and almost the ideologue of this hooligan movement. Although, in essence, none of the songs of the collective called for violence or indirectly glorified the military exploits of the suburban heroes. The texts for the debut works of "Lyube" were already being written by poet Alexander Shaganov, with "Esenin-like sadness in his eyes," who had already established himself working with the hard rock group "Cherny Kofe" (in particular, "Vladimirskaya Rus" ("Wooden Churches of Rus") and Dmitry Malikov ("Do Zavtra"), and Mikhail Andreev, who wrote for Matvienko's group "Klass" and the Leningrad group "Forum." The first recorded songs were "Lyubertsi" and "Bat'ka Makhno." The work on them began on February 14, 1989, at the "Zvuk" studio and the Moscow Youth Palace studio. The guitarist of the "Mirage" group, Alexei Gorbashov, a resident of Lyubertsy by registration and conviction, Viktor Zastryov, Igor Matvienko himself, and, of course, Nikolai Rastorguev, participated in the work. From this day on, it was decided to establish the chronology and consider this day as the official birthday of "Lyube." The success was so sudden that when offers to go on tour started pouring in, the members of "Lyube" were not prepared for it. A special touring lineup was required for trips around the country. Therefore, people had to be urgently recruited. They became: Alexander Nikolaev (bass guitar), Vyacheslav Tereshonok (guitar), Rinat Bakhteev (drums), Alexander Davidov (keyboards), and, of course, vocalist Rastorguev.
