Early Life and Education
Ludwig Levonovich Markaryan was born on July 9, 1929, in the village of Batikian in the Bayazet region. His early childhood was spent in Novorossiysk, but in 1936 his family moved to Yerevan. In 1937, he began his education at S. Kirov School No. 12.
Military Service
In 1948, Markaryan was drafted into the army and sent to the Zhdanov Military Engineering School in Leningrad. From 1949 to 1952, he served as a cadet, then as a platoon engineer, and finally as a platoon commander in a training company until his discharge in 1956 due to the dissolution of national divisions in the Soviet Armed Forces.
Civilian Career
After leaving the army, Markaryan pursued higher education at the Kharkov Institute of Railway Engineers, graduating in 1962. His civilian career began at "Vtorцветмет," where he held positions as an authorized representative and later as a senior engineer. In 1966, he joined the State Planning Committee (Gosplan) of the Armenian SSR as a chief specialist in project organizations.
Promotions and Responsibilities
Markaryan's responsibilities grew over the years within Gosplan. He became Deputy Head of the Capital Investments and Construction Industry Department in 1982, and Deputy Head of the Consolidated Department of the Construction Complex in 1989.
Awards and Recognition
Markaryan's contributions to the construction industry in Armenia were recognized with several awards and honors. In 1970, he received the Medal "For Valiant Labor in Commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of the Birth of V.I. Lenin." In 1984, he was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Builder of the Armenian SSR."
Family and Personal Life
Ludwig Markaryan was married to Victoria Kasabian, a teacher of Russian language and literature. They had three children: Karen, an engineer; Naira, a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences; and a third child whose name is not mentioned in the text. Markaryan passed away in 1996 after a long illness.
