Ludwik Dorn
Ludwik Dorn was a Polish statesman and politician who made significant contributions to his country.
Early Life and Education
Born in Warsaw in a Jewish family, Dorn grew up with a keen interest in politics. He participated in the scouting movement, where he was mentored by prominent figures who later rose to prominence in Polish politics.
Political Career
After joining the democratic opposition, Dorn's political career took off in the 1990s. He was elected to the Sejm, Poland's parliament, in 1997 and served three consecutive terms.
Minister of Internal Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister
In 2005, Dorn was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration and Deputy Prime Minister. He held these positions until February 2007, when he resigned due to policy differences.
Marshal of the Sejm
After his resignation, Dorn was elected Marshal (Speaker) of the Sejm in 2007. He served in this capacity for over a year before being expelled from his party in 2008.
Later Political Career
Following his expulsion, Dorn founded the new party "Poland Plus" in 2009. He later became an independent politician in 2010.
Literary Pursuits
In addition to his political career, Dorn was also an accomplished writer. In the 1980s, he translated espionage novels by John Le Carré and others into Polish under a pseudonym. He also wrote a children's fairytale.
