Luis Guzmán is an American actor known for his diverse roles in numerous films and television shows. Born on August 28, 1956, in Puerto Rico, he spent his childhood in the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

Guzmán's acting career began with his participation in a school play called "Bye Bye Birdie." He was captivated by the experience and started performing in street theater and various productions. Although theater was his passion, Guzmán worked at a social assistance center in Manhattan.

After appearing in the television series "Miami Vice," Guzmán landed small roles as thugs or cops in films like "Crocodile Dundee II" (1988), "Family Business" (1989), and "Q&A" (1990). In the new decade, Guzmán continued to play supporting and episodic roles in films and television shows such as "Law & Order," "Homicide: Life on the Street," and "NYPD Blue."

Guzmán's breakthrough came when directors Paul Thomas Anderson and Steven Soderbergh noticed his talent and cast him in their films "Boogie Nights" (1997), "Out of Sight" (1998), and "Traffic" (2000). These roles allowed Guzmán to showcase his versatility in both comedy and drama.
