Early Life and Career

Born on July 31, 1976, in Pavlodar, Ukrainian SSR, Maksim Romaschenko began his football journey at a young age. After initial stints with Polygraftekhnika and Dnipro, he made a name for himself with MPKZ Mozyr in the Belarusian Premier League, winning the championship in 1996 and scoring 21 goals in 54 matches.

Rise to Prominence

Romaschenko's breakout performance for MPKZ earned him a move to Dynamo Moscow in Russia. Despite being primarily a midfielder, he displayed a remarkable scoring prowess, netting 15 goals in 81 appearances. His impressive displays also earned him the Belarusian Footballer of the Year award in 2004.

International Career

As a key member of the Belarus national team, Romaschenko became their all-time leading goalscorer with 20 goals. His most memorable performance came in a 2006 World Cup qualifier against Italy. Belarus lost 3-4, but Romaschenko scored a stunning brace, including a free-kick goal against Gianluigi Buffon.

Successful Spell in Turkey

In 2000, Romaschenko joined Gaziantepspor in Turkey, where he enjoyed some of the best years of his career. He later moved to Trabzonspor and established himself as a vital player for both clubs. During his four years in Turkey, he scored 26 goals in 81 matches and helped Trabzonspor win the Turkish Cup in 2004.

Later Career and Retirement

After 2006, Romaschenko's career gradually declined. He moved to several clubs, including Sheriff Tiraspol, Anzhi Makhachkala, and Khimki, but failed to regain his previous form. He eventually retired from football in 2013 at the age of 37.
