Biography of Maksud Ibragimbekov

Maksud Mamedovich Ibragimbekov is an Azerbaijani writer and screenwriter. He was born in Baku in 1935 to parents Mamed Ibragim Ahmed oglu (born in 1898) and Fatima Alekper gyzu Meshadibekova (born in 1915). He is married to Anna Yuryevna Ibragimbekova (nee Gerulaitis), born in 1948, and they have a son named Murad Maksud oglu Ibragimbekov, born in 1965.

Education and Career:
Ibragimbekov graduated from the Baku Polytechnic Institute in 1960 with a degree in engineering. He then pursued his passion for writing and attended advanced screenwriting courses from 1962 to 1964 and advanced directing courses from 1971 to 1973 in Moscow. He initially worked as a site manager and later as a chief site manager in the construction industry in Baku from 1960 to 1962. In 1964, he began his career as a screenwriter and director. He became a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR in 1965. Since 1989, he has been the president of the PEN Club of Azerbaijan and a deputy of the Parliament of the Azerbaijan Republic.

Literary Contributions:
Ibragimbekov has authored novels, novellas, and short stories that have been published in various magazines such as "Novy Mir," "Yunost," and "Druzhba narodov." Some of his notable works include "Who Will Go to Truskavets," "A Story with a Happy Ending," "Concert for Baritone and Orchestra," and "And There Was No Better Brother." He is currently working on a novel titled "The Long Journey to the Sphinx." His prose has been translated into 26 languages.

Theatrical Success:
In 1975, Ibragimbekov's play "Mesozoic Story" (directed by B. Ravevskikh) premiered at the Malaya Theater and went on to be performed at 40 theaters across the country. In 1978, his play "Death for All Good Things" (directed by Z. Karagodsky) was staged at the Leningrad TYuZ theater and received critical acclaim. It was performed at 50 theaters nationwide.

Recognition and Awards:
Ibragimbekov was honored with the title of People's Writer of the Azerbaijan Republic in 1998. He has also received several prestigious awards, including the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1981, the Order of Glory of the Azerbaijan Republic in 1995, and the State Prize of the Azerbaijan Republic in 1975.

Aside from his writing career, Ibragimbekov is an avid reader and enjoys traveling. He currently resides and works in Baku.
