Biography of Mallika Sherawat
Mallika Sherawat, an Indian actress and model, is known for her boldness and is considered one of the leading Indian sex symbols. She was born in the Rohtak district of Haryana. Initially named Rima Lamba, she later changed her name to Mallika Sherawat to avoid being confused with other Rimas in the Indian film industry. The name Mallika allowed her to feel like a goddess, while the surname Sherawat was taken in honor of her mother. Coming from a fairly orthodox family, Mallika did not receive much support from her relatives in her career choice. However, she had enough determination to pursue her chosen path. Mallika even managed to defy her father's demands and went to Mumbai to make her dream come true.
Sherawat attended Miranda House College and later graduated from Delhi University with a degree in Indian philosophy. After her studies, she worked part-time as a flight attendant and got married to pilot Karan Singh. However, their marriage soon ended as Mallika prioritized her career and the pursuit of glamour over ordinary household problems. At the age of twenty-one, Mallika appeared on the cover of the international magazine "Snoop" and later on the cover of the Indian version of "Cosmopolitan." This was an unprecedented success, especially considering that she had not yet established herself as an actress and had no influential connections in the fashion industry.
Acting Career
Mallika made her screen debut in Surjit Bindrakhiya's music video "Lak Tunoo." Soon after, she landed a small role in the film "Jeena Sirf Mere Liye" by Vashu Bhagnani. This film served as valuable training, but Mallika's true fame came after her role in the film "Khwahish" with Himanshu Malik. In this film, she showcased her ability to bring incredible sensuality to her characters. It was after this role that Mallika gained a certain level of popularity in Bollywood. She then appeared in the thriller "Murder" directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Mahesh Bhatt. The film told the story of a lonely woman who becomes involved in an unexpected affair. The film's success was incredible, and Mallika's popularity increased exponentially. She was even nominated for the "Zee Cine Awards" in the category of Best Actress.
Mallika's next project was a role in the comedy film "Kis Kiski Kismat" with Govinda Menon and later an opportunity to work with Jackie Chan in his film "Myth." Mallika also participated in the film's promotional campaign at the Cannes Film Festival. Despite her success and numerous well-received roles, Mallika was often accused of lacking talent and only being able to display her attractive figure. These accusations persisted throughout her career.
In 2006, Mallika played the lead role in the film "Pyaar Ke Side Effects" alongside Rahul Bose. The film performed well at the box office and once again solidified Mallika's reputation as a versatile actress. In 2007, she starred in Himesh Reshammiya's directorial debut "Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story," where she reluctantly took on the role of a female vampire.
