Manorama, whose real name was Gopisanta, was a renowned Indian actress. She was born on May 26, 1943, in the district of Tiruvarur. She began her career in a local theater group as a singer and actress, where she received her stage name.

Her film debut was in the 1958 comedy "Maalaiyitta Mangai". From then on, she started appearing in Tamil comedy films, often alongside comedians such as Nagesh, Chandrababu, and Thangavelu. She gained recognition among Soviet audiences for her roles in films such as "Zita and Gita", "Water", and "Truth is Stronger than Lies".

Although predominantly known for her work in Tamil language films, Manorama also appeared in a Hindi film called "Kunwara Baap" in 1974. Additionally, she played roles in several Telugu and Malayalam films.

Manorama was known for her expressive gestures and comedic timing. She holds a Guinness World Record for the most number of roles played in her career. In 1989, she won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film "Puthiya Padhai". In 2002, she was honored with the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian awards.
