Biography of Marc Dorcel

Marc Dorcel, born Marcel Herskovits on March 27, 1938 in Paris, is a French entrepreneur and the founder of the adult film production company Video Marc Dorcel. He is widely regarded as one of the largest producers of pornography in Europe.

Early Life and Career

Dorcel's father was a Hungarian Jewish tailor, and he grew up in a modest background. He started his career as an industrial designer in a sewing machine company. After serving in the army, Dorcel opened his own transportation business using his own resources and his parents' means. However, the business quickly went bankrupt.

Entry into the Adult Entertainment Industry

In 1968, Dorcel began printing erotic stories, distributing them under the pretext of selling sulfur stocks. After the publication of his best-selling novel "Ursula," Dorcel gained fame as over 20,000 copies were sold in less than three months. However, censorship soon banned the distribution of such literature as "indecent," and the demand for erotic literature declined in the 1970s.

To adapt to the changing market, Dorcel shifted his focus to the market of erotic photo novels. American magazines had already started to penetrate this market, adding drawings of lingerie on female photographs to conceal intimate areas. The price of one such magazine reached 140 francs. Dorcel later published his first erotic color photo novel.

Founding Video Marc Dorcel

Dorcel eventually transitioned to producing erotic and pornographic films. His first film, "Jolies Petites Garces," was released in 1980 and featured Marilyn Jess and Peter Stanislas. It sold 4,000 copies in specialized stores for 500 francs per cassette. The film's popularity was due to the fact that, since October 30, 1975, pornographic films had been declared illegal. They were later shown in special theaters and classified as X-rated films.

Video Marc Dorcel and Legacy

Dorcel went on to establish Video Marc Dorcel, a production company that specializes in adult films. The studio's films are known for their diverse range of content and unconventional approach. Dorcel's work has made him one of the most prominent figures in the European adult entertainment industry.

In addition to film production, Dorcel actively collaborates with private individuals and, to this day, remains one of the largest producers of pornography in Europe. On March 1, 2006, he launched the satellite channel Dorcel, which broadcasts adult films. The Dorcel channel is also available online.
