Mark Blucas, an American actor, was born in 1972 in Butler, Pennsylvania. He completed his education at Girard High School in 1990, where he was considered a future basketball star. Despite his athletic talent and a scholarship to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Blucas' dreams of a professional basketball career faded when no NBA team showed interest in him. He spent a year in England playing for the Manchester Giants basketball team before returning to America with the intention of studying law to become a lawyer.

However, instead of pursuing a legal career, Blucas began attending auditions and soon started landing small episodic roles. Although his early roles were not significant, the films in which he appeared gained attention. In 1996, he appeared in the sports comedy "Eddie" alongside Whoopi Goldberg and two years later, he had a role in the fantasy film "Pleasantville" starring Tobey Maguire and Reese Witherspoon. Interestingly, he portrayed a basketball player in "Eddie".

Blucas gained public attention in 1999 when he played the role of Riley Finn, one of Buffy Summers' love interests, in the TV series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". He was a regular cast member for two seasons. In 2002, he portrayed the main character, James Lane, in the horror film "They" alongside Laura Regan. The same year, he played Lieutenant Henry Herrick in the war drama "We Were Soldiers" with Mel Gibson. The following year, he starred in the music drama "Prey for Rock & Roll".

In 2003, Blucas appeared in the light comedy "View from the Top" directed by Bruno Barreto and the British melodrama "I Capture the Castle" directed by Tim Fywell.
