From the outset of his career, Matkowski forged an enduring partnership with fellow Polish player Mariusz Fyrstenberg. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey that spanned two decades. In 2003, they captured their maiden ATP tournament title in their hometown of Sopot.
International Success and Olympic Participation
The duo continued to excel in the following years, claiming victories at the Bahia tournament in 2004 and earning the opportunity to represent Poland at the Athens Olympics. Although they faced early elimination in their Olympic debut, Matkowski and Fyrstenberg remained undeterred.
Grand Slam Breakthrough and Masters Triumph
From 2005 to 2007, the Polish pair added four more ATP titles to their tally, claiming the Sopot crown twice and emerging victorious in Bucharest and Vienna. In 2006, they reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, marking their first appearance in the final four of a Grand Slam tournament.

In 2010, they reached the quarter-finals at both the French Open and the US Open. Following an esteemed career, Matkowski announced his retirement from professional tennis in 2022.
