Biography of Marco Bonanomi

Marco Bonanomi is an Italian racing driver who began his career in 2001 competing in various stages of the Formula Renault Eurocup and Italian Formula Renault for the Cram Competition team. In 2002, he switched to RP Motorsport and continued participating in the same series.

After a four-year break, Bonanomi joined the Tech 1 Racing team for four races of the 2006 World Series by Renault season. He then completed a full season in 2007, finishing in 12th place overall for the RC Motorsport team. In 2008, he participated in the series once again, this time driving for the Comtec team.

During the 2008 season, Bonanomi survived a horrific accident at the end of the season on the Catalunya track. He collided with the car of Russian driver Mikhail Aleshin, causing his car to flip and crash into a digital display. Thankfully, Bonanomi escaped without injury, but his car was irreparable, thus ending his season.

From 2003 to 2005, Bonanomi focused on Formula 3 and competed in the Italian championship, Euroseries, and various individual competitions. During this time, he had the opportunity to be part of the former Formula 1 team Coloni, owned by fellow Italian driver Piercarlo Ghinzani.

In 2006, Bonanomi participated in the Euroseries 3000 for Fisichella Motor Sport, owned by Formula 1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella. He finished the season as the Vice Champion, securing six pole positions, victories, and fastest laps in 18 starts. This season proved to be the most successful in his career.

In addition to the World Series by Renault in 2007, Bonanomi also competed in several races of the inaugural season of the International Formula Master series, finishing in 15th place overall. In early 2008, he took part in the new GP2 Asia series. Driving for Piquet Sports, he won the final race in Dubai, marking one of the most prestigious victories of his career.

Bonanomi returned to GP2 Asia for the 2008-09 season, replacing Alex Yoong in the Qi-Meritus Mahara team starting from the January round in Bahrain. This change occurred due to Yoong's extended absence from racing, which had affected his performance.
