Mardy Fish, born December 9, 1981, in Edina, Minnesota, is an American professional tennis player. With a successful career in both singles and doubles, he is known for his prowess on hard courts and is among the elite American tennis players to rise to fame in the early 2000s.

National Success and Rankings

Fish has achieved six ATP Tour titles and reached the finals of four Masters tournaments. His best Grand Slam results include quarterfinal appearances at the 2007 Australian Open, 2008 US Open, and 2011 Wimbledon Championships. In April 2011, he matched his compatriot Andy Roddick as the top-ranked American in the ATP rankings. As of August 29, 2011, he holds the position of world No. 8, with a career-high ranking of No. 7 achieved on August 15, 2011.

Early Life and Career

Born to Tom and Sally Fish, Mardy first appeared on television as a toddler in Minneapolis, demonstrating his tennis skills by bouncing balls over a net. His family moved to Florida in 1986, where he attended Saddlebrook Academy and later Boca Prep. Along with Andy Roddick and Jesse Levine, he attended Boca Prep International School.

Professional Journey and Family

Fish turned professional in 2000 and is coached by David Nainkin. He has earned over $5.8 million in prize money and has a large fan group known as the "Fishheads." On September 28, 2008, he married California attorney Stacey Gardner, and they currently reside in Los Angeles.

Notable Achievements and Injuries

Fish overcame a wrist injury that required two surgeries in 2005. He began the 2011 season with a second-round loss at the Brisbane International and the Australian Open. He reached the semifinals at the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships and the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships but lost to Milos Raonic at the BNP Paribas Open.

He achieved notable success at the Sony Ericsson Open, reaching the semifinals before falling to World No. 1 Novak Djokovic. Fish entered the Top 10 of the ATP rankings for the first time on April 18, 2011. At the French Open, he reached the third round, his best showing at that tournament.

Fish made an impressive run at the 2011 Rogers Cup, facing Djokovic in the final and losing 2-6, 6-3, 4-6. He continued his strong performance on American courts by defeating Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Western & Southern Open.
