Biography of Maria Bueno
Maria Bueno, a former famous Brazilian tennis player, was born on October 11, 1939, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. She began playing tennis at a young age and at the age of twelve, without proper training, she won her first tournament. A few years later, at the age of fourteen, Maria showcased her talent in a women's singles competition, making a name for herself in the tennis world.

In 1958, Maria Bueno participated in the Italian Championships, her first Grand Slam tournament, and excelled in the women's doubles competition at Wimbledon. The following year, she won another tournament at Wimbledon, defeating Darlene Hard in the final match. She also became the first champion at the US Championships that year, earning the title of the world's number one female tennis player in the 1959 rankings. Maria gained recognition in her homeland of Brazil, becoming a national hero.

Maria Bueno continued to shine in her tennis career until 1967, when she suffered a serious hand injury. Despite this setback, her remarkable sporting achievements were duly rewarded, and in 1978, she was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame. In 2006, Maria was invited to the official opening ceremony of the USTA National Tennis Center and made her debut as a television commentator on the Brazilian channel SporTV. She provided excellent commentary for men's and women's singles matches.
Currently, Maria Bueno remains active and engaged. She enjoys traveling, regularly visits museums and theaters, and indulges in reading good literature. The former champion is fluent in five languages - Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, and Italian.
