Early Life and Career

Marie-Ève Drolet began her skating career at the age of six. She quickly rose through the ranks, joining the Canadian national junior team in 1998.

Junior World Champion

In 2000 and 2001, Drolet became a two-time junior world champion. Her success on the international stage earned her a spot on the senior national team in 2002.

Olympic Debut and Retirement

At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Drolet helped Canada win a bronze medal in the 3000-meter relay. She also finished fourth in the 1000-meter race and sixth in the 1500-meter race. Surprisingly, Drolet retired from speed skating shortly after the Olympics.

Six-Year Hiatus

During her six-year break from the sport, Drolet pursued other interests. She earned a degree in psychology, traveled extensively, and worked in various fields, including nursing and tree planting.

Return to Speed Skating

In 2008, Drolet decided to return to competitive speed skating. She chose Calgary, Alberta as her new training base. Readjusting to the rigors of training and competition proved challenging, and she initially struggled to regain her former form.

Olympic Redemption

Qualifying for the 2010 Olympic Games proved too difficult for Drolet, but she remained determined to make it to Sochi in 2014. Despite missing three World Cup races due to injury, she qualified for the Canadian Olympic team. At the Sochi Olympics, Drolet and her teammates earned a silver medal in the 3000-meter relay, an improvement over the bronze medal she had won in 2002.
