Marion Davies: A Silent Film Star and Hearst's Muse

A Star is Born

Marion Cecilia Davies, an American silent film comedienne, was born in New York City on January 3, 1897. She embarked on her career as a chorus girl before landing a role in the "Ziegfeld Follies."

Hollywood Breakthrough

Davies' film career took off in 1917 at the age of 20. A fateful meeting with newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst a year later boosted her career through his vast influence. She starred in numerous iconic silent films before the advent of sound movies, gradually signaling the decline of her career. Her last big-screen appearance was in 1937.

Love and Marriage

Davies' romantic involvement with Hearst endured until his death in 1951. Just months after his passing, Davies, then 54, married Horace J. Brown. They remained together until her death from cancer on September 22, 1961.

Legacy and Recognition

Marion Davies is immortalized with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6326 Hollywood Boulevard. Her contributions to the silent film era remain etched in history.
