Liina Kersna: A Renowned Estonian Politician and Economist
Early Life and EducationLiina Kersna, an esteemed Estonian economist and political figure, was born on January 1, 1966, in Kiviõli. She graduated from the University of Tartu in 1989 with a degree in Economic Cybernetics. In 1994, she completed her Master's degree in Economics at the same university.
Career in Economics
Kersna embarked on a successful career in economics, holding various positions at prestigious institutions. From 1989 to 1991, she served as a Senior Accountant at the Institute of Astrophysics and Atmospheric Physics of the Estonian Academy of Sciences. Later, she worked at the Ministry of Economy, the Bank of Estonia, and Tallinna Pank. From 1998 to 2011, Kersna served as an Economic Analyst and Department Head at Hansapank/Swedbank. In 2011, she founded her own company, Oeconomia OÜ.
Political Career
Kersna entered politics in 2014 by joining the Reform Party. She was elected to the XIII Riigikogu (Estonian Parliament) in 2015 and re-elected to the XIV Riigikogu in 2019. In 2014, she served as Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister, followed by her appointment as Minister of Finance from 2014 to 2015. In 2016, she was appointed Minister of Education and Science. On January 26, 2021, Kersna became the Minister of Justice in the government led by Kaja Kallas.
Awards and Recognition
Kersna's contributions to Estonian politics and economics have been highly recognized. In 2008, she was awarded the Order of the White Star, 5th Class, for her distinguished service.
Personal Life
Liina Kersna is married to Raivo Seppo, a former member of the Riigikogu. They have three children, Rasmus, Rivo, and Kaisa.
