Mark Gangloff is an accomplished American swimmer who has made significant contributions to the sport both at national and international levels.
Early Life and Education
Born on June 8, 1982, in Buffalo, New York, Gangloff graduated from Akron Firestone High School in Ohio. He went on to attend Auburn University, where he excelled as a varsity swimmer and served as team captain.
Competitive Career
Gangloff's competitive career has been marked by numerous achievements. In 2004, he surpassed renowned swimmer Brendan Hansen at the NCAA Championships. He repeated this feat in 2007 at the U.S. National Championships, earning a silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke.
Gangloff represented the United States at the 2004 Athens Olympics, where he finished fourth in the 100-meter breaststroke and won a gold medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay. In 2005, he won a silver medal in the 50-meter breaststroke at the World Championships.
Coaching and Training
After graduating from Auburn University in 2007, Gangloff moved to the University of Charlotte to train under David Marsh, coach of the Mecklenburg Aquatics team. He married Ashley Rubinstein, a fellow Auburn University swimmer, in the same year.
Film Appearance
In 2007, Gangloff made a cameo appearance in the film "The Guardian," starring Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher. He played the role of a Coast Guard swimmer. The casting process was daunting for Gangloff, who had no prior acting experience. However, he thoroughly enjoyed the four-week filming process, finding it a fun and challenging experience.
Olympic Return
Gangloff was selected to represent the United States at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He had previously competed in the 2004 Athens Olympics, where he won a gold medal in the 4x100-meter medley relay. Gangloff is considered a key member of the U.S. swimming team and is expected to play a significant role in Beijing.
