Martin Creed is a contemporary British artist who was born in Wakefield, England, in 1968. He grew up in Glasgow, Scotland. From 1986 to 1990, Creed attended the Slade School of Fine Art in London.

Early Works

In 1993, Creed's artwork, titled Work No. 81, which consisted of one square inch of masking tape in the middle of each wall in a building, was exhibited in the offices of the London-based company Starkmann Ltd. This marked the beginning of his career as a renowned artist.
